HMRC liaison: what being your agent means
What we do for you as your agent with HMRC
When you sign up with a BSQ Accounting plan, we register as your authorised agent with HMRC. This means we can communicate with HMRC directly on your behalf for all tax matters covered by your plan.
What being your agent means in practice
- We receive copies of HMRC correspondence about your company's Corporation Tax, VAT, and PAYE accounts
- We can call HMRC on your behalf to resolve queries, disputes, or registration issues
- We submit all returns and registrations directly to HMRC
- HMRC recognises us as your representative in writing and by phone
What you should still forward to us
HMRC sometimes writes directly to your registered address even when an agent is in place. Forward everything to us the day it arrives. This includes activation codes, compliance check letters, tax code notices, and anything else from HMRC you are unsure about.
Your personal HMRC account
Our agent authorisation covers your company's tax affairs. For your personal Self Assessment (included in Standard and Scale plans), we are also authorised as your personal tax agent once you have completed the authorisation process.
💡 Important: Never respond to HMRC directly without contacting us first. Even a routine reply can cause complications if it conflicts with a position we have already taken on your behalf.
