VAT payment: how to pay

How to pay your VAT payments - explained

How to pay

Pay by bank transfer to HMRC's account: sort code 08 32 00, account number 11963155, account name HMRC VAT. Your payment reference must be your 9-digit VAT registration number. An incorrect reference means HMRC cannot allocate the payment, and you will receive a late payment notice.

Direct debit option

Set up a direct debit through your HMRC Government Gateway VAT account to automate payment. HMRC collects the amount three bank working days after the filing deadline automatically. This eliminates the risk of forgetting a payment. We recommend this for all of our customers.

💡 Good to know: When your accounting plan includes VAT Returns, we confirm the exact amount due and the payment deadline when presenting your return for approval. Pay on the same day you approve, to avoid forgetting. Do not wait until the deadline.
