What happens if you miss a Corporation Tax deadline

The penalties that occur if you miss a Corporation Tax deadline, and what to do if you cannot pay

Two separate deadlines apply to Corporation Tax: the payment deadline and the filing deadline. Missing either has different consequences.

Late payment

Interest accrues at the Bank of England base rate plus 4% from the day after the payment was due. As of 2026, this is 7.75%. Interest accrues daily until the payment is made.

Late filing

The CT600 filing deadline triggers automatic penalties if missed: £100 for up to three months late; a further £100 for three to six months; 10% of the unpaid Corporation Tax for six to 12 months; and a further 10% beyond 12 months.

Time to Pay

If you cannot pay on time, contact us immediately. We can help you set up a Time to Pay arrangement with HMRC, which suspends penalty escalation while the arrangement is maintained.

💡 Good to know: Tell us immediately if you think you may struggle to pay a Corporation Tax bill. The earlier we know, the more options are available. Saying nothing and missing the deadline is always the worst outcome.
