Your first 30 days as a new limited company
What to do first and what can wait - explained
A short list of jobs in the first month after the company has been formed sets it up properly and makes everything that follows easier.
The essentials
- Open a business bank account in the company's name and run everything through it
- Forward us the company’s Unique Tax Reference (UTR) letter that HMRC posts to your registered office
- Tell us your expected start of trading so HMRC records are set correctly
- Connect your Xero subscription and bank feed (we set this up with you at onboarding)
- Agree your salary and dividends approach with us before taking any money out
What can wait
VAT and PAYE registration only apply when needed. We monitor your position and register you at the right time, so there is nothing to do on these yet, unless you are taking a salary straight away or you know your sales in the first months are going to be more than £90,000.
💡 Good to know: None of this is difficult, and our onboarding covers each step. Forward any HMRC letter to us the day it arrives and we will tell you if anything needs doing.
