Information you’ll need for company formation

A checklist of what you need to complete your company application

For the Application:

1) Company Details

  • Company Name: Ending in 'Limited' or 'LTD'
  • SIC Codes: Choose up to 4 for your business activities
  • Registered Email Address: The official email address that Companies House will use to contact you
  • Registered Office Address: The address where the company is legally registered. On public record.  Concerned about privacy? Choose a package which includes our Registered Office Service

2) Officers and Shares

For each shareholder, director, PSC and secretary (if applicable):

  • Full name, date of birth, nationality
  • Personal Email Address, residential address and Service Address (placed on public record)
  • Companies House Personal Verification Code (if you don't have this, we'll request one for you)
  • Shares: Most founders choose 10 or 100 shares at £1 each. Max 10,000 shares / £10,000 capital

After the Application:

After you submit your application, we'll email you instructions on how to complete your mandatory ID checks.

1) ID Verification - accepted documents

  • All countries: Biometric/machine-readable passport
  • UK: Driving licence
  • Ireland: A biometric or machine-readable passport, or an Irish Passport Card
  • EU/EEA/Channel Islands/Isle of Man: Photocard driving licence or biometric ID card

2) Proof of Address - always required for non-UK residents; sometimes for UK residents

  • A bank statement or utility bill addressed to you showing full residential address, dated within the last 3 months, in the original format (e.g. a downloaded PDF, not a screenshot)
