Navigating Xero: the key areas to know
The main sections and most used screens
Xero is organised around a top navigation bar with eight main sections. Knowing where everything is saves time.
The eight main sections
- Home: customisable dashboard showing an overview of your business
- Sales: invoices, online payments, quotes, customers
- Purchases: bills, online bill payments, purchase orders, expenses, suppliers
- Reporting: reports such and profit and loss and balance sheet
- Payroll: employee records, payslips, and payroll runs
- Accounting: bank accounts, chart of accounts, fixed assets
- Tax: VAT returns
- Contacts: customers and suppliers
The most-used screens
Most of your daily bookkeeping happens in three places. You should get comfortable with these screens first:
Invoices: to raise and check sales invoices
Bank Accounts: to reconcile the bank feed
Bills: to enter supplier costs.
💡 Good to know: The Xero ‘Home’ Dashboard gives you a real-time financial snapshot every time you log in: bank balances, outstanding invoices, upcoming bills, and cash flow. Check it when you log in each week to spot anything unexpected quickly.
