Guide to Personal Verification Codes (PVCs)
What a Personal Verification Code (PVC) is and how to obtain one
A Personal Verification Code (PVC) is an 11-character code issued to you by Companies House once your identity has been successfully verified. It is unique to you as an individual, not to any specific company, and confirms that you have met Companies House's mandatory ID verification requirements.
Obtaining a PVC is a legal requirement for all company directors and Persons with Significant Control (PSCs). Without one, new companies cannot be formed and existing ones cannot file their confirmation statement.
Who needs a PVC?
Any director, PSC, or an LLP member of a UK company.
How do you obtain a PVC?
1. If you are forming a new company with 1st Formations
As an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), we are approved by Companies House to carry out these checks for you, and we do so on your behalf free of charge. Once complete, Companies House will issue your PVC and email it directly to you.

💡Already have a PVC? If you have previously verified your identity for another company, you don't need to verify again. You can enter your PVC on the application form when forming your new company.
2. Existing directors and PSCs
You will need to verify your identity and obtain your PVC before your company's next confirmation statement is due. You can do this directly through GOV.UK One Login using a valid passport or photocard driving licence.

💡Your PVC will be stored in the 'Manage account' tab of your Companies House account.
